The Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) is an all-volunteer organization, with members from all walks of life, dedicated to preserving the history of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States. The CAF is a non-profit, privately funded and totally self-supporting 501 (c)3 organization. Our CAF aircraft fly!! Each year more Americans see them, touch their metal, smell their exhaust smoke, and listen to the ROAR of their piston engines than visit static displays of all other aviation museums combined! The CAF aircraft throughout the U.S. perform before nearly 10,000,000 spectators every year, recalling the hard-won victories of Americans and other freedom-loving people around the world during the years between 1939 and 1945. The Southern California Wing, CAF was formed in March, 1981, and now has 350+ members. The Wing holds an Open House during most summer holiday weekends.

Fund raisers and social events are held during the year as well.

The Wing is actively involved in air shows - primarily in the Western United States.

Our CAF hangars are located at the Camarillo Airport in Camarillo, CA.The airport is just off Highway 101 in Camarillo. Take the Las Posas exit and go south toPleasant Valley Road. Turn right and take a right onto Eubanks Street (2nd light) into the airport. We are on the corner of Eubanks and Airport Drive - you will see the sign on our hangar.

The WWII Aviation Museum is open every day (except Mondays) from 10:00am to 4:00pm. We accept donations Adults - $7.00; Stutdents (10-18) - $4.00; Children (6-10) - $3.00; Children under 6 and Current Military - No Charge

Our volunteers are at the hangars working on our aircraft on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays - from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Our cadre of volunteer docents are very knowledgeable and are glad to give tours of our facilities to groups (including school groups/classes). We need reservations for tour groups of ten or more in order to line up docents to guide you through. Please call (805) 482-0064 to make a reservation. We'll have someone to show you around our facilities and make your visit a memorable one. We have an ever-growing museum of World War II aviation artifacts and displays, along with an aviation library. There is a gift shop in the museum for you to purchase mementos of your visit with us. The Museum and Gift Shop are open daily except Monday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Mission Goals

TO HONOR AMERICAN MILITARY AVIATION THROUGH FLIGHT, EXHIBITION AND REMEMBRANCE

"A generation which ignores history has no past and no future" – Robert Heinlein

The CAF was founded to acquire, restore and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States, and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans. More than just a collection of airworthy warplanes from the past, the CAF's fleet of historic aircraft, known as the CAF Ghost Squadron, recreate, remind and reinforce the lessons learned from the defining moments in American military aviation history.

Want to be a part of this great mission? Join the Air Force you've never heard of and keep the CAF flying. This is our creed and more. It's who we are, what we do and why we do it. Help history soar!

CAF Objectives

  1. To acquire, restore and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.

  2. To construct or obtain museum buildings for the permanent protection, maintenance, and display of these historic aircraft, period artifacts, and documents as a tribute to the thousands of men and women who built, serviced and flew them, and to build and organize the "Combat Airman Hall of Fame."

  3. To perpetuate the spirit in which such combat aircraft were flown in the defense of our nation, in the memory and hearts of all Americans.

  4. To establish an organization having the dedication, enthusiasm and esprit de corps necessary to operate, maintain and preserve these aircraft as symbols of our American Military Aviation Heritage.

  5. To receive gifts, legacies, and grants of money and property of every kind and to administer the same for the purposes herein stated, and to do anything necessary or proper for the accomplishment of these purposes; to lease, purchase, hold, have, use, and take possession of and enjoy fee simple or otherwise any personal property necessary for the uses and purposes of the corporations; and to sell, lease, alienate, or dispose of the same at the pleasure of the corporation and for the uses and purposes for which said corporation is formed; and to buy and sell real estate or personal property and to apply the proceeds of sale, including any and all income, to the uses and purposes of the corporation.

Our CAF aircraft fly! Each year more Americans see them, touch their metal, smell their exhaust smoke, and listen to the ROAR of their piston engines than visit static displays of all other aviation museums combined! Our F8F Bearcat puts on an amazing aerobatic display. Our incredibly rare F6F Hellcat and Japanese Zero dogfight act is a sight to see. Soon our Spitfire Mk XIV will roar to life and fly in airshows throughout the country.

We hope to see you soon! Make sure and visit, but until you do, enjoy a few photos of our museum.
